Well Woven Creator Spotlight: Katie Walsh of MyLittleKateCod

If you’ve ever been on the hunt for inspiring cottage-style decor, Katie Walsh is the answer to your search. Known for her Cape-Cod style home that’s been transplanted into Indiana, each space she creates is more beautiful than the last. With four Well Woven rugs in her home, she is an expert in using rugs to complete a room. To learn more about how she finds inspiration, and of course to learn all her home decor secrets, we asked her to tell us more about how her and her family #livewellwoven.

Why/how did you choose the name “My Little Kate Cod?”

I’m frequently asked if I live out on the Cape and while that would be lovely, the answer is ‘no’. The name came to me after settling into this home and often being asked, “Where did you move?” Describing it to locals was easiest by telling them that it’s the little yellow Cape Cod home on this street. After saying that again and again, once it spewed out,“the little yellow Kate Cod” and I decided to always call it that. Shortly after beginning my Instagram page, that became its name.

What's your favorite piece of furniture in your home right now (besides your Well Woven Rugs)?

Wow, that is TOUGH to narrow down! I’d have to say the 1800s fireplace surround that’s in the dining room. The road trip we took to go pick it up and the story that went along with getting it are cherished memories. The store we picked it up from was in the middle of the most charming farm and country area. We stayed and chatted for hours and drove home with the biggest smiles from making new friends, having a gorgeous piece of history, and a beautiful sunset behind us. Plus, it was a major steal!

What are you inspired by?

I am inspired by antiques, my mom, and nature. Random much? Let me explain since they all really go hand-in-hand. My mom and grandma started me on garage sale-ing (oh yes, it’s used as a verb around here) at a really young age. They’d coach me while driving from sale to sale, giving me pep talks about what to look for. Both of them had the most beautiful homes that mixed old and new and always had beautiful antiques on display in our homes growing up. I wish now I had gotten my hands on some of them then! I find myself asking my mom for some of her items and shopping her house when I’m there. Last but not least, nature. Having all four seasons where we live, I appreciate the beauty of things I see change throughout the year. I decorate seasonally by bringing some of the color hues from the current season into my accent pieces.

How has your style evolved?

My home style has definitely evolved over time by really becoming a reflection of “me” and the things I love. I began decorating using what I had combined with what I saw in others’ homes. I was essentially just picking random items without having a cohesive flow. I began replacing reproductions with originals, generics with authentics, and basics with statements. Instead of forcing a style type into this home and decorating according to those restrictions, I allowed the style to be set by the elements brought into this home that are dear to my heart.

How do you balance your full-time job with your home decor/Instagram?

Balancing home décor with a full-time job happens relatively naturally. After a day of work, I love taking a few minutes to decompress by doing something home décor related. Even if it’s just shuffling a few things on the shelf or rearranging some flowers in a vase, I find it therapeutic to unwind this way. Big home projects I try to leave for the weekends and with the inability to sleep in (trust me, I’ve tried), waking up early on Saturdays with a cup of coffee and a fun décor project is right up my alley.

What do you look for when choosing a Well Woven rug?

When choosing a rug, I look for vintage-inspired looks, functionality, and quality. A lot of entertaining goes on here, so I really want my guests to feel comfortable walking on rugs and I also don’t want to be the host that makes their guests feel like they’re at a museum. Rugs that can actually be used without fear of spills or blemishes are winners in my book! I have a Well Woven rug in each space that receives the most activity- even under the dining table! I never, ever worry because come shoes or spills, they’re a simple clean and always make a statement.

How do the Well Woven rugs you have fit your French cottage style?

I love for rugs to really ground a space. My Well Woven rugs are the most beautiful reflections of muted tones, neutral blues, taupes, and soft greens that really blend everything together cohesively. What I love is, each rug differs so greatly, yet going from room to room, they offer a connective flow since each one carries at least part of a color of another. You see a lot of similar rug styles and patterns out there, but Well Woven has some of the most unique farmhouse and French cottage styles I’ve discovered!

What does #livewellwoven mean to you?

I see this hashtag as a reminder to shop beautifully AND smart. Your home décor should be what you find beautiful, practical, and functional.
